Hello! 👋 Welcome to Notion for Absolute Beginners, a Navari Family Center for Digital Scholarship (NFCDS) workshop. Today’s workshop will get you acquainted with the weird, wild, wonderful world of Notion. We’ll get you set up to manage your work in the coming semester and make sure you leave with some tools for learning more and troubleshooting later.

I’m Summer Mengarelli, the Data Services Librarian at the NFCDS. My office is 250G in Hesburgh Library, and I’m always happy to meet again later to answer any questions you might have from the workshop. My email is [email protected].

Before we get started, here are the big takeaways we’ll cover:

  1. Navigating Notion, including creating and editing content blocks and pages
  2. Installing and customizing a Notion template for organizing school notes and projects
  3. Experimenting with Notion functionalities, including ways to collaborate with classmates and share your work

And here is what you’ll need to follow along…

Note: There are many AI functions in Notion, including the AI chatbot **Notion AI ****that you can see in the bottom right of your Notion window. Today’s workshop will not cover using AI in Notion, but you can find information online if that is of interest to you. Always be cautious in trusting the output of AI chatbots, and consider privacy and intellectual property issues when you feed information to a bot.
